Annual General Meeting

Dear Parents / Carers

Annual General Meeting

You are cordially invited to join the Annual General Meeting of the PTA being held at the school on 11th October at 2.30 in the Training room next to the Nursery.

We are very sorry we have no Child care facilities available during the meeting so children cannot attend.

The PTA is involved in various projects throughout the year and supports the school by:

*       organizing the Mid-Summer BBQ

*       arranging the Christmas discos, Pantomime, purchasing Christmas crackers, the presents for the younger children, sponsoring Sports Day

*       providing additional equipment which would not otherwise be possible from the school’s budget.

Everyone who is a parent or carer of a child attending Darlinghurst is automatically a member of the PTA.  The Committee, which is made up of parents, support and teaching staff, meets approximately once per term and is elected at the AGM.  There are vacancies on the Committee for new members so, if you would like to be nominated as a Committee member please complete a form from the school office and return it to the school office no later than Friday 7th October.

Also, as this is my daughters last year at Darlinghurst, I am standing down from the post of Chair of the PTA. If you would like to be nominated as Chair please complete a form from the school office and return it no later than Friday 7th October; if you would like to discuss the role of the Chair please contact me via the School Office.

We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at the meeting

Yours sincerely,

Lesley Lord

Chair, PTA

BAGS 2 SCHOOL

Dear Parent / Guardian

We are pleased to announce that the PTA has organised a textile collection with Bag2School in order to raise funds for more playground equipment.

Bag2School are the UK’s leading textile recycler and fundraiser working with schools and since its inception in 2001 they have now paid out over £10 million. As well as raising vitally needed funds for our school, it also helps the environment by helping to divert unwanted textiles away from landfill.

A recent DEFRA report has shown that textile collection schemes are helping to reduce the volume of textiles discarded as municipal solid waste. However it is a fact that as a nation we still send 1,081,000 tonnes of textiles to landfill every year.

By getting involved in our Bag2School collection, you have an opportunity to sort through your cupboards and wardrobes and donate unwanted textiles in the bag provided – this can include adults’ and children’s clothes, shoes (tied together please), hats, belts, bags, soft toys, curtains and bedding (not duvets or pillows).

We will receive £500 per tonne or £0.50/kg which will be a great boost for our fundraising. In addition it will also raise awareness amongst the children of the benefits of recycling and reuse. If you fill the donation bag and still have more then you can use any other bag to donate your items and don’t forget to ask grandparents, friends and neighbours to have a sort out as well!

Bag2School will be collecting from our school on 27th September. Please bring your bag (or bags!) to the main School gate on the left (by the bins –PLEASE ) and help us have a really good collection.

Many thanks indeed for helping us with this unique fundraising opportunity.

Yours faithfully

The PTA

BOUNCY CASTLE UPDATE - NEW DATE 8th JULY - WRISTBANDS TO BE REISSUED

Dear Parents, Carers, Friends and Children

We are very sorry that because of the weather on Friday that we had to cancel the Bouncy Castles. We had hoped that the weather would relent enough for us to inflate them but the heavy rain which fell from 1.30 until after 2.30pm meant that the inflatables had become so wet that even when the rain lessened they had become too wet to be used safely.

We were able to move some of the stalls into the School Hall and while this was somewhat chaotic it did seem to be enjoyable for many people.

We have been able to reschedule and have a Bouncy Fun afternoon and mini Fair on Friday 8th July. Please look out for more information on the blog, the school website, in News & Views and on the notice boards and via posters put up around school.

As we now have a new confirmed date we will reissue wristbands for all those who purchased for the 17th – we did take names and classes for all sales – but obviously some of you may not be able to make the new date and we will of course issue refunds in those cases.

The Raffle was drawn on Friday –please see Louise Toland for details of winners.

The Sweets in the Jar competition has not finished and will continue to be run outside school later in the week.

We would like to particularly thank Lubbly the Cake Sellers, the Candy Floss people and the Ice Cream man who have all made generous donations and helped make Fridays event as good as it was.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT

Yee Haw! A Big Thank You From the PTA!

The Barn Dance was a great success. We tapped our feet, clapped our hands, swung our partners and dosey doed the night away. We may have known our left from our right when we started the evening but this knowledge was not necessarily secure by the time we’d finished! It was lovely to see so many families with young children taking part. The children all behaved beautifully, as well as impressing us with their energy, enthusiasm and ability to keep up with the steps. Everyone enjoyed themselves so much that we will be planning another Barn Dance in the future. It was a lovely social event, giving people the chance to meet a different set of faces.

PTA Fund Raiser

The National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER) is looking for parents and pupils to give their opinions, predominantly via online surveys, on a wide range of educational issues. This information will have a direct impact on education policy and practice for a variety of organisations.

£2 will be donated to the PTA for every household that signs up to the panel and panellists will earn points (with a redeeming value of £2) for every survey they complete.
For more information or to sign up – please go to www.nfer.ac.uk/panel
When prompted for our PA code, please enter BB548

A parent/guardian/carer who has a child or children who are attending school between reception and year 13 inclusive may join the panel.
A parent/guardian/carer must register at least themselves and can then choose to register another parent and between one and four children from the same household to become members of the panel

Children can also specifically be registered to a panel but they must be in one of years 3-13 inclusive, but do not have to be attending the same school.--Thank You for taking the time to participate.
